YOUTH POLICY

The young people are the basic capital of each nation, a guarantee for a prosperous future. Hundreds of thousands of young people have left Bulgaria during the transition period due to the lack of security and proper life conditions, impossibility to realise their dreams, potential and creative energy, the insincerity and the lies in social and political life. This process could be stopped only if we turn our country into a pleasant and cosy place for living, if we create conditions for a long-term planning and free realisation of the personal objectives and competencies. That is why the youth policy is an inseparable part from the general efforts of turning Bulgaria into a normal and prosperous European country. The long-term goal of the UDF is to formulate and conduct consistent youth policy, guaranteeing young people an equal start for participation in economic and social life, delegating them rights and responsibilities on the part of the state and local authorities, through active support and partnership.

The UDF shall encourage the initiation in Bulgaria of the successful European model of close cooperation between the business and the schools or universities. Business companies would be able to invest in talented students who after the completion of their education shall practice in these companies the acquired competences and skills. This opens new possibilities for youth employment.

Drugs, AIDS and the aggressive behavior turn into one of the most serious problems of our times. That is why UDF stands for strict and effective measures against drug distribution and use, the aggressive behavior and the non-observance of the Bulgarian legislation. The fight against AIDS must incorporate variety of measures, above all educational campaigns against its spreading. Basic means for securing healthful way of living and prevention against these problems is the accelerated growth of the importance of school, university and mass sports.

The UDF stands for the encouragement, formation and development of youth structures of active participation (NGO – associations, organisations, groups and centers), in which the young people shall be able to initiate and take direct responsibility of the elaboration and the realisation of projects (social, cultural and economic). Youth’s formations, along with family and school, must be one of the basic fundamentals of the social equality within the municipality or the region.

The objective of the political and civil education of the young people is to encourage their participation in public life, being an important factor for the improvement of their confidence in public institutions.

The priority of UDF’s youth program is the preservation and the development of the Bulgarian cultural traditions within the context of the European values, stimulation of the creation of a new European model of youth activity. That is why, special institutional care is needed, supporting the educational programs, youth cultural centers and initiatives, thus maintaining and enriching the youth culture, as opposed to such pseudo and cultural phenomena like pop-folk, for example.

The UDF shall initiate the reestablishment of the National Youth Council, its participation as a full-right member in the European Youth Forum and as a partner of the state institutions in the country. The free cooperation among young people is the shortest way for achieving their common goals.
